Hey guys, I have got some incredibly exciting news… my blog is in the running for a UK Blog Award!
I’m absolutely chuffed as nuts, and would love your support – it’s down to the public vote to get Sarah Woo through to the next round (so please feel free to spread the joy and re-share this post!)
** Click here to check out my entry and place your vote ** Make sure you scroll right down to the bottom of the page, submit your email address, select category ‘Fashion and Beauty + Lifestyle’ – that’s it! – and you’ve officially taken me once step closer to attending their awards ceremony in London 🙂
In the last couple of years we’ve seen a huge shift in wellbeing; people just want to take care of themselves a little bit more. We want to live better, live well, we’re working out more and we’re paying closer attention to what fuel we’re putting into our bodies. I don’t know about you, but I love to get lost (and completely mesmerised) amongst Pinterest boards and Instagram images of all my favourite foodie bloggers offering up delicious, colourful, recipes with natural goodness. Where possible I try to eat organic too, and it really does make a difference.
So, we’ve got the healthy-eating down, we’re well on-board with all the great stuff we’re eating, but how about what’s happening on the outside? Our skin is our largest organ, everything you put onto it filters down and soaks into the rest of your body. With that in mind, have you ever asked yourself: “What ingredients are in that product?”
On my quest to find 100% natural and organic skincare – I spoke to my talented and mega-knowledgeable cousin (yes, I might be biased but she’s one of the greatest beauty therapists I know) Joanna Taplin, founder of Sunshine for the Soul. She introduced me to Pinks Boutique skincare, which I’ve now been using for seven months. The product is absolutely gorgeous, the results have been remarkable, and I can’t wait to share what other amazing things I’ve discovered too.
My hair routine usually consists of throwing my head upside down, quick blast with the hairdryer for 10mins, a generous ruffle, and away I go. For special occasions, or just for a little boost, I treat myself to a blow dry. My hair dries polka straight naturally, so to get curls and bounce is a real skill, which I’m yet to master… In steps The Bardou.
Love a blow dry too? Well, if you haven’t heard of The Bardou already, it’s definitely time now. Their unique concept of ‘pop up anywhere, at anytime’ pop-up salons means they’re bringing us the most beautiful blow dries and the best experiences in the most sought-after locations.
Endorsed by celebrity hairdresser Adee Phelan (remember The Salon reality show? SO good!) – he’s planning to expand the concept across the UK and Europe, and has just recently opened a salon in Marbella.
Note for your diaries: Are you free next weekend, 2nd April? Their is a special event to attend, and everyone’s invited!
This week I attended the Next Beauty event in London. Held at the super cool Ice Tank Studio; the perfect setting against the frosty hues to showcase their new SS16 range – especially their make-up collection, packed with so many gorgeous metallics, punchy colours and sparkle.
I’m usually a foundation, powder, blusher, mascara and lippy kind of gal; day and night (maybe a bit of eyeliner and a bright lip if you’re lucky) I always rock out the same, fairly natural, look. So, when we were treated to two live make-up tutorials by the lovely, and just generally amazing, beauty vlogger Lydia Elise Millen – I was completely transfixed. That woman is amazing, she makes it look so easy! Check out her YouTube channel here for lots of beauty inspiration, tips and more.
Thanks to Lydia, I discovered a whole new range of tricks. Thanks to Next, I’ve discovered a whole new range of make-up and glorious beauty finds… I can’t wait to try out my new skills and products at home. A new Woo to follow soon 😉
Here’s my photo diary of the event – find out what I’m loving – and shop the Next beauty collection now.
Two wonderful years ago, my darling friend Trudy suggested that I should start blogging about my personal style and from there, the Style Files were born (cheers Trudes!) – and I promise so many more will be coming in 2016 too.
Trudy is a keen photographer – shooting the majority of my style files – and bless her, she has taught me so much. I have now invested in my very own Canon DSLR and cannot wait to get snapping.
To my greatest surprise, Trudy booked us a photoshoot at Vanity Studios in London (mainly because she was approached by one of their sales reps on Oxford Street and just couldn’t say no 😉 But now, I’m so glad she didn’t) to give us both some photography experience, teach us a trick or two and ultimately, get some inspiration. I have to say, I was pretty chuffed with the results.
A super fun girls day out, which exceeded all my expectations and more. Here’s the lowdown of our experience and the pictures we chose to keep in the end.
The first of its kind; Glamour magazine took over the Saatchi Gallery in London – with their trusty partners Fiat – to host their Glamour Beauty Festival, dubbing it as a ‘beauty theme park’.
Thousands of readers flocked (including myself) to the Chelsea venue to discover the latest beauty innovations, trends, products and an array of activities for us all to enjoy – they kept us occupied for HOURS.
We watched talks from industry experts, beauty insiders and special celebrity guests (including David Gandy, he’s one of my favourites) and were treated to some glorious pamper time – and were given the goodiest of goodie bags with our tickets.
Now strap up, and enjoy the (beauty theme park) ride; here’s a little photo diary to whizz you through my day…
Denim daydreams… Playing in one of my favourite places, the rooftops of Balham [London].
Enjoying wearing this jumpsuit by Atterley a little bit too much, my neighbour caught me striking a pose (hence the air kisses photo on the right) – Oh, hi Gerry 🙂 – turns out, I really love this shot! It’s a keeper.
You may remember Atterley from a blog I wrote earlier this year on their inspiring #ARWoman campaign. They’ve just undergone a huge rebrand; removing the road and re-launching solely as Atterley. How exciting, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
And of course, not forgetting the gorgeous accessories too. I’m seriously loving these nude suede lace up sandals from Office (and they’re super comfy too!), tassle-tastic bag by H&M and sparkling treasures; jewellery by kate spade new york, Reiss, & Other Stories and Stella & Dot.
Nestled in the cobbled streets, I headed to the beautiful, bustling piazza in Covent Garden, London – for the market place holds a special little gem – the Blo Blow Dry Bar has landed in the UK, and it’s the first one in Europe in fact.
With seven dazzling styles featured on their ‘Blo Hair Menu’ to feast your eyes over and THEN they pulled out the new ‘Braid Menu’ for summer… well, this is the dream.
Treated to a lovely ambience of chatting all things hair, delicious coffee (you know I love my coffee) and my favourite glossy magazines – I was set for the perfect afternoon.
Here’s the Blo-down (hey, like that!?) on the salon’s offerings, what braid I chose and the amazing hair styling products they used to create it – and why I highly recommend you to go!
If you asked me what two essentials I’d need in my make up bag, I would always say lipstick and mascara: keeping those lips luscious and your lashes pumping, they are my get-set for the day.
Recently I discovered the magical wonders of make-up artist and beauty super-hero, Charlotte Tilbury. Delving into her delicious and adventurous K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick collection – I went for the naughty but very fabulous shade of Bitch Perfect (tee hee) – and her no calories required, Full Fat Lashes 5-Star Mascara in glossy black. I also couldn’t resist this gorgeous and really cute Make-Up Bag in Rose Gold & Night Crimson.
Christmas is coming! 46 magical sleeps away – true story – and this week I’ve started to feel very festive. The cold, crisp, fresh air, keeping toasty in my favourite winter woolies, and making sure to keep my skin moisturised too (think Christmas party frocks, ladies!). Bring on the body butter.
I’m an absolute sucker for a Body Shop body butter (wahey, poet!) at the best of times, but especially at Christmas. Previously they’ve offered us delicious, mouthwatering treats such as cranberry and chocolate orange and this year, I’m super excited about their latest addition, the Glazed Apple Body Butter. I’ve tried it, and I’m in love. Apple and spice, and all things nice…
When I was asked if I would like to style a hair show, I absolutely jumped at the chance and especially for the opportunity to collaborate with the very talented, Anthony Kinsey O’Kelly of Vidal Sassoon.
From creating on-the-spot dresses, to sewing models straight into their outfits, it was a challenge I didn’t know I was even capable of, and we did it! 🙂 It was one of my most favourite experiences and the quickest five hours of my life. Here’s a journal of how Anthony and I came up with the idea, from design (including getting very handy with some spray paint) to show time >> and a lovely little video for you to watch too. Good times.
Fashion: Pink peplum hem dress; ASOS, pink perla pointed court shoes; LK Bennett, fascinator hat; British Heart Foundation (epic purchase, and for a wonderful cause), pink rose clutch bag; Dorothy Perkins, pearl necklace, bracelet and earring set; Debenhams, pearl ring; Zara, pearl & diamanté hair accessories; H&M (shown on hat), cat-eye sunglasses; Dior
Give me a punch of colour any day – striking prints, bold cuts with a touch of floral – femininity meets art deco. Geometric print is a hot trend for SS14, and this ‘Miami-inspired’ ready-to-wear collection from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, is guaranteed to get you shipshape for summer.
To keep these blonde tresses in order, especially with the holiday season fast approaching (yay!) I’m in serious need of a hair-hero, and Moroccanoil has come to the rescue. These products work wonders – I strongly recommend the repair shampoo and conditioner, and their signature treatment oil – my hair feels thicker, silkier and so much healthier! *Swish* This handy little travel kit works perfectly to test the products out, PLUS easy to throw in your handbag, your gym bag and hand luggage (less than 100ml! Air punches) and trust me, once tried, you’ll never go back. Get ready to unveil your summer locks lovelies…
As a new blogger on the block, I couldn’t think of a more perfect opportunity than to spend an evening with five editors from Hearst Magazines UK. Soaking up their wonderful pearls of wisdom on all things blogging and consumer journalism – we were set for an inspirational evening. And if that doesn’t get your heart racing enough, how about the mention of naked men and cupcakes? (Oo-er, I say!) This is my kind’a evening. Let’s rock and roll…
